Kernstown Battlefield isn't especially different from too many other battlefields, but my personal guided tour (this happens a whole lot at lesser-known attractions) was fantastic, and the not-yet-restored mansion satisfied my love for urban decay.

Unlike a lot of historic houses, the Patsy Cline House was more about the individual than the time period in which she lived, because she lived so recently. I don't know much of her music, but she had a lovely voice and was surprisingly prolific during her short life.

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley has a great collection of local history but my favorites were the temporary exhibits.  The Alex Ross stuff was neat - I'm not a comic book expert but I can appreciate the artistry.  The landscapes were especially cool, presented almost like old school Urban Sketching, with photographs next to the paintings.

First Glue Stick Tourism of the new year! This was another one of my "pick a place and go" trips. I made a detailed snarf map, started first thing in the morning, and continued from sunrise to sunset. I logged some 180 markers over the course of the day and had a fine time. I think my favorite stop was Mt. Hebron Cemetery, but I'm partial to graveyards to begin with. I also took a tour of the Old Court House Civil War Museum, though it didn't hold the answer to my more burning question: how did they get those cannons up to the second floor?
